Astronaut Public Opening

From training to blasting off explore what it takes to become an astronaut in MOSH’s newest traveling exhibition, Astronaut. Through hands-on stations, visitors can experience g-force, conduct maintenance on a space station, grow space food and learn the realities of showering, sleeping and using the toilet in space!

Opening Day Activities (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.):

  • Explore Science: Earth & Space 2019 Toolkits
    Hands-on Earth and space related experiences with connections to science, technology and our community.
  • Space-Themed activities in the Creation Station exhibit!
  • Astronaut Starbright Documentary Short Film on-going screening in the Wells Fargo Community Conference Room, 1st Floor.


  • JEA Extreme! Science Shows @ 11:30 a.m. | 1:30 p.m. | 3:30 p.m.
    All About that Space
    Learn all about the science and history of space exploration. This program utilizes video images, live experiments, and interactive storytelling to explore the science of what it takes to get astronauts to space and survive their journey to the stars.
  • First Coast Flute Choir @ 3 p.m. (Wells Fargo Community Conference Room, 1st Floor)
    The First Coast Flute Choir will perform a selection from Gustav Holst’s The Planets.
  • Bryan-Gooding Planetarium Show @ 2 p.m.
    Magnificent Desolation: The Moon & What We Know
    Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing as we explore the moon’s origins and nature from what we’ve learned from those first historic steps!
  • Special Guests

      Advocate, Activist, Speaker and Philanthropist
    • Solar Systems Ambassadors
      Learn the latest science and discoveries of NASA’s missions and more!
    • NEFAS (Northeast Florida Astronomical Society)
      “Expanding horizons through education and observation.”
    • First Coast Flute Choir
      Community ensemble made up of flutists located in Jacksonville, FL.
    • Spaceport JAX
      Education outreach in all things space and tech for residents of Glynn, Camden, Nassau, Duval, Clay and St. Johns Counties.
