Selection of The Laramie Project, by The 5 & Dime Theatre Company, 2:45 p.m. @ Wells Fargo Conference Room
– The Laramie Project, written by Moises Kaufman, tells the story of Matthew Shepard, a University of Wyoming student, who was murdered and his body tied to a fence in the freezing cold in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998. His death set a nationwide debate about hate crimes and homophobia which led to the Hate Crimes Prevention Act (2009).
Over the course of a year and a half Mosises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project conducted over 200 interviews with people of the town in the aftermath and during the trial of the two accused of killing Shepard.
