You may recognize him from the science documentary reboot “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey,” PBS science program “Nova ScienceNow,” or a score of other films, books and TV show appearances. Neil deGrasse Tyson is an award-winning American astrophysicist who popularized science communication and sparked curiosity in all who have crossed his path in some form or another.
Neil deGrasse Tyson is coming to Jacksonville. The Florida Theatre and the Museum of Science & History are delighted to present an evening with Tyson. From “Star Wars,” to “Frozen,” to “The Martian,” Tyson offers an enlightening and unraveling review of all the science that our favorite movies got wrong, combined with what they got right.
As a child, Tyson was inspired by scientists and educators who invested their time in his curiosity, and this nurtured his own sense of duty to serve the public with science education. Tyson’s educational growth and his passion and career in science is rooted in his childhood fascination with the deep mysteries of the universe. His professional research interests include star formation, solar explosions, dwarf galaxies and the Milky Way. He is known for breaking down complex ideas into simple, intuitive pieces.
“Back by Popular Demand, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson returns to the Florida Theatre with his follow up presentation “Astrophysicist Goes to The Movies – The Sequel” where Dr. Tyson will walk the audience through ALL NEW space references and scenes in movies and how they got it all wrong! We are thrilled to partner with MOSH to present another spectacular show with Dr. Tyson for the Jacksonville community.” – Kevin Stone, Florida Theatre Vice President of Programming
